Sri Lanka’s new president Maithripala Sirisena was sworn in over the weekend, marking the end of the controversial Mahinda Rajapaksa’s ten-year rule.

The new president, who was elected on Thursday, promised reform for the ethnically divided nation during the election campaign, but some observers are sceptical about how much will change, especially when it comes to the treatment of minority Tamils in the country’s North.
